Warm Your Body, Unwind Your Soul

As the days are getting colder, most of us will spend more time at home. What a wonderful opportunity to treat your feet to a warm and soothing bath, which not only softens and beautifies your feet but also helps you to unwind after a long day. A foot spa can work wonders for your mood and overall well-being.
Soaking the feet for 15 to 30 minutes in hot water raises the overall body temperature, stimulates circulation, and boosts immune system activity. Yet, at the same time, a warm foot bath releases muscle tension, deeply relaxes the mind, and can even alleviate depression.
While using plain hot water is perfectly fine, adding a few drops of essential oils or a brew of blended herbs, which you prepare just like herbal tea, will make your foot bath all the more powerful. Lavender and rose are wonderful for relaxation, while peppermint and sage soothe achy, tired feet.
Epsom salt, a magnesium sulfate compound, can be another highly beneficial addition to your foot bath. Easily absorbed through the skin, the magnesium contained in Epsom salt relaxes the muscles, nerves and the mind. It also boosts the level of the “happy” chemical serotonin in the brain. Another plus is that in combination, magnesium and sulfate are said to assist the body in eliminating toxins. Half a cup of Epsom salt is a good amount for a small tub of ankle-high water.
Day by day our feet carry us faithfully through life. Long hours standing or high-heeled shoes add to the burden. Yet, those hard-working feet are often the part of our body that gets unfairly neglected. So why not show gratitude to your feet and pamper them tonight with a nourishing foot spa. Your body and soul will love you for it.
